Server management system handles huge network

With Spider, The Planet is now able to add remote IT users one server port at a time, providing the most cost-effective and scalable solution for its customers

The Planet, the world's largest privately held hosting company, has selected Lantronix SecureLinx Spider to address customer needs for KVM-over-IP (keyboard/video/mouse) management of their servers. Responding to customer requests for a remote KVM solution, The Planet looked to Lantronix Spider to meet their specific needs for an affordable, single-port device.
In hosting environments equipped with a broad range of servers, it is difficult to separate individual customer ports to diagnose a problem over the network.

With Spider, The Planet is now able to add remote IT users one server port at a time, providing the most cost-effective and scalable solution for its customers.

Additionally, the KVM solution provides hands-on access to remotely diagnose attached servers, install software and files using Virtual Media tools and virtually manage everything from the operating system up, all from one central location.

'Lantronix enabled us to meet our customers' requirements with its single-port offering', said Aaron Conklin, Product Manager for The Planet.

'Spider has allowed us to significantly scale the amount of equipment we can monitor at once, which provides our customers with the remote management capabilities that helps ensure their assets are constantly up and running'.
The Planet currently offers its KVM-over-IP services across its entire server fleet and in each of the company's six data centres.

The Planet selected Spider as an internal solution for managing its own IT infrastructure.

The company now uses Spider as an extension of its internal technical support staff.

SecureLinx Spider is one of the lowest 'cost-per-remote-user' server management solutions available and guarantees nonblocked 1:1 BIOS-level access to remote servers.

This flexible solution eliminates server-to-switch CAT5 cable distance limitations and gives system administrators 24/7 access to mission-critical servers distributed across a wide variety of network environments.

Available in USB and PS/2 models, Spider requires no additional client software.

About the size of a small chalkboard eraser, Spider provides flexible mounting options and can be attached directly to the back of the server and is light enough to be cable-supported.

It takes virtually no space and can be powered from the server, eliminating the need for an external power supply.

Featuring a dual-Ethernet port design and integrated Ethernet switch, the Spider allows multiple units to be cascaded, providing simple and cost-effective 'add-as-you-grow' scalability.

'Lantronix Spider was designed specifically for distributed IT environments that do not require the typical, high-port count KVM solutions that are currently on the market', said Reagan Sakai, interim CEO and CFO for Lantronix.

'With Spider, The Planet gains a competitive advantage through better customer service and a tool to increase their customer base and revenue stream'.

'The Planet's customers can reap the benefits of remote management with an affordable solution that enables them to successfully grow their individual businesses'.
