Defence contractor spends $900,000 on GPS cards

A primary US defence contractor has ordered delivery of prototypes of a complete circuit-card assembly for use in a global positioning system (GPS) communications receiver

White Electronic Designs has received a purchase order from a primary US defence contractor, valued at approximately US $900,000. The contract is for the delivery of prototypes of a complete circuit-card assembly for use in a global positioning system (GPS) communications receiver. The company expects to deliver these prototypes starting in February 2008 with the potential for follow-on production orders in early 2008.
The sizes of potential production contracts are estimated to be in excess of $10 million over the next four years.

There are upwards of 100,000 military communications receivers currently in the field that could be retrofitted with GPS receiver modules.

White Electronic Designs will integrate GPS technology and anti-tamper (AT) process technology into the circuit card assemblies for the next generation of receivers to protect more effectively against 'friendly fire' incidents.
