Symmetricom names Michael Gordon as new CIO

Symmetricom has named Michael Gordon as its new chief information officer and vice president of quality. In his new role, Gordon will be responsible for the implementation of the company's Oracle enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and monitoring Symmetricom's products and services to ensure they meet the company's high standard of excellence. Gordon comes to Symmetricom from Comm21, a pioneer in cable modem broadband communications, where he served as vice president and general manager of the Fixed Broadband Wireless division.

"As Symmetricom continues to transition from the leader in synchronization and timing to providing a wider range of broadband access technologies, it's important to have key executives with expertise in the industry", said Thomas W Steipp, Symmetricom's president and chief executive officer.

"We feel Michael's experience and leadership skills, coupled with his repeated success in his e-business ventures, will enable Symmetricom to leverage technology to better serve our customers".

Leveraging his extensive experience in e-commerce, product development, and technology consulting, Gordon will work to deploy an e-business process to more efficiently manage Symmetricom's supply chain by procuring and securing raw materials and delivering products to customers.

In an effort to streamline internal operations, Gordon will work to integrate Symmetricom's entire information technology infrastructure.

As a twenty-five year veteran of Silicon Valley, Gordon has been active in the creation and development of numerous technology startup ventures.

Prior to Comm21, Gordon formed TeleCoupon Network, in 1992 where he created a network of interactive coupon dispensing kiosks for supermarkets.

In 1983, he joined a newly formed startup, ByVideo, as vice president of product development.

Under his leadership, ByVideo developed the first interactive multimedia kiosk with true e-commerce.

Gordon became president of ByVideo in 1990 and turned the company profitable in less than a year.
