Symmetricom goes to Latin America via Miami

Symmetricom has expanded into Latin America with the opening of offices in Miami, Florida. Symmetricom will be able to efficiently deliver sales and support services for its Latin American partners and distributors to meet the growing needs of this market. This is crucial as the current wave of deregulation in the Latin American telecommunications market is creating increased demand for new prepaid wireless services, additional telephone lines and expanded access to the Internet.

"Symmetricom is at the crossroads of telecommunications technology, providing the synchronisation technology that networks cannot work without and the broadband technologies that enable carriers and service providers to grow", said Tom Steipp, CEO of Symmetricom.

"Our Latin American expansion, with the growing market opportunity for both DSL broadband and sync and timing, is a significant step in Symmetricom's evolution as a global telecomms networking company".

Informa Group estimates Central and South America will exceed 80 million telephone lines by 2003, with service revenues anticipated by the International Telecommunications Union to exceed $100 billion.

In addition to providing synchronisation solutions and support for telecommunications and wireless networks, Symmetricom's office will also enable carriers and service providers to offer broadband services to support the region's growing Internet market, which IDC projects to grow to 29 million users by 2003.
