Secure access modems for data protection

Microtel has introduced a range of access security modems which offer a cost-effective method of preventing breaches of security in dial-up networks. Two separate security techniques are employed: 'pass-through' security and 'call-back' security, each with fully encrypted security codes. An additional level of security, available as an option, uses hardware-based DES encryption on OSI layer 1 with optional chip and password-protected front-panel controls.

The high-performance modems offer all the usual specifications from V.21 to V.34+ on PSTN and leased lines at speeds of up to 33,600 bit/s with both synchronous and asynchronous transmission.

Both V.42-bis and the MNP5 algorithm are supported.

Comprehensive remote management capabilities include a facility for managing leased-line modems via a separate PSTN line port.

For large concentration sites, 19in rack-mount versions are available, offering densities of up to 30 modems per card nest.

The units are designed for integration into demanding network environments.

Each modem has an embedded secondary maintenance channel for transmitting management information to remote modems without interference to the user data.

Powerful network management software is included, and built-in Flash programming allows new software releases to be downloaded locally or remotely.
