Gigabit Ethernet switch expands to 24 ports

The GS24 is a fully rugged, fully managed stand-alone Gigabit Ethernet switch

Responding to the growing requirement for improved connectivity as defence applications become increasingly network-centric, Radstone Embedded Computing has announced the GS24, a fully rugged, fully managed stand-alone gigabit Ethernet switch. Featuring 24 10/100/1000Mbit/s ports, the GS24 is aimed at out-of-the-chassis applications such as the networking of multiple subsystems.

he GS24 complements the previously announced GS16 16-port Gigabit Ethernet switch and CPX24 24-port Gigabit Ethernet switch, but includes a number of customer-suggested enhancements, including the provision of a simplified approach to cable management.

Thermal performance has also been improved through the use of a redesigned housing.

'The GS24 broadens still further the range of market-leading Gigabit Ethernet switches Radstone is able to offer, and appears to be the only solution of its type available', said Simon Collins, Product Manager at Radstone Embedded Computing.

It builds on the success we have seen with the GS16 - which already features in a number of major defence computing programmes - and brings detail improvements based on feedback from the growing installed base'.

The GS24 offers IPv6 traffic policing and quality of service (QoS) functionality such as guaranteed bandwidth allocation and prioritisation.

Connection to the light weight, space-efficient, conduction-cooled GS24 is via the rugged front panel connectors, which meet MIL-STD-810F requirements for humidity, salt spray and dust.

The GS24's front panel allows customisation to accommodate varying connector types including optical connectors when the optically expanded variant is used.

Featuring a nonblocking shared memory architecture, all the Gigabit ports support both full- and half duplex operation, providing up to 88Gbit/s offering full wire speed performance with minimal latency on all twenty-four ports simultaneously.

In addition, a version with two 10 Gigabit optical interfaces is available supporting backbone networks and aggregation.

The GS24 also features a MIL-STD-1275 power supply unit to increase operational reliability.
