Small form factor HDD reaches 100Gbyte

Toshiba Europe Storage Device Division (SDD) claims to have become the first hard disk drive (HDD) manufacturer to reach the 100Gbyte milestone for small form factor, 1.8in hard disk drives. Delivering 100Gbyte across two disk platters, the MK1011GAH further reinforces Toshiba SDD's technical and manufacturing expertise in delivering high capacity and highly mobile HDDs for a plethora of consumer electronics applications. With a growing number of new devices offering feature rich multimedia experiences, from ultraportable laptops, mobile gaming devices, portable video players and digital camcorders, the demand for increased storage capabilities is forever on the rise.

With consumers increasingly choosing consumer electronics devices that offer sleeker profiles than their competitors, product designers are keen to deliver the desired storage increases but in increasingly shrinking form factors.

To help achieve this goal, the MK1011GAH delivers high capacity and high data transfer in a smaller form factor than many of the 1.8in drives currently available on the market.

Toshiba SDD's new drive not only delivers enhanced storage capabilities, the MK1011GAH offers enhanced technologies that will ensure a quality user experience whilst further reinforcing its suitability for mobile applications.

Utilising the new ATA-7 interface and delivering a data transfer rate of 100Mbyte/s, the new drive is also suitable for video playback devices.

Furthermore, the Low Insertion Force (LIF) connector supports the drives smaller form factor without inhibiting the performance of the hard disk drive to its hosting device.
