Radisys ranked top media server vendor

RadiSys has announced that its family of Convedia media server products was again named the market leader by two premier research and consulting firms. These latest findings come in a second quarter 2006 report from Infonetics Research on next generation voice and IMS equipment as well as a second quarter 2006 carrier VoIP equipment update from iLocus. The iLocus update notes that Convedia media servers captured 48 percent market share in the growing IP media server segment.

The Infonetics report found that Convedia (recently acquired by RadiSys) was the market leader in the number of media server ports, its ninth consecutive quarter in this position.

Convedia media servers from RadiSys consolidate a broad range of media processing features to deliver an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) compliant shared media processing resource for any Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications network.

The Infonetics report also highlights the broadening of the RadiSys media server portfolio as well as recent customer wins.

Infonetics ranked Convedia media servers number one in market share in 2004 and 2005.

Media servers, the report adds, are poised to play a key role in networks as more advanced services and features are deployed.

'Media servers are a critical component in IMS deployments and VoIP networks and are enabling telecommunication service providers to deliver a broad range of value-added multimedia services to their residential and business customers,' said Scott Grout, RadiSys President and CEO.

'This latest pair of rankings builds on the excitement of our recent acquisition of Convedia as well as the meaningful expansion of the RadiSys family of solutions'.

RadiSys media servers enable fixed, mobile and cable service providers deploying IMS and pre-IMS services to reduce service delivery costs, and more rapidly introduce new innovative voice, video, and multimedia services.

These products enable enterprise customers to deliver new productivity-enhancing applications and services on their converged enterprise networks while helping to reduce infrastructure and operating costs.

Since pioneering the IP media server market in early 2000, Convedia media servers have been deployed with over 200 customers worldwide, including over 25 of world's top 50 carriers and numerous Fortune 500 customers.
